Necessity often sparks innovation — and for our co-founder Varesh, it began with something as simple, yet vital, as a child’s lunch. At a community event, he was struck by the lack of healthy options for kids. A passionate cook with deep roots in traditional culinary practices, he started preparing wholesome meals every week, soon inspiring other parents to do the same.
But spending four hours in the kitchen every Saturday revealed a bigger challenge. The robotics engineer in him couldn’t ignore the question: what if healthy cooking could be automated? That spark became the seed of Autonomous Kitchen.
Varesh, Srikant, and Arun continued building, they recognized a deeper opportunity: the same underlying applied physical intelligence framework powering food automation could extend to many sectors. What began as a personal mission evolved into Cotan Labs, a company focused on building applied physical intelligence and advancing research in areas such as VTOL flight autonomy, healthcare support systems, animal sciences, and education.
Today, Cotan Labs stands at the intersection of robotics, AI, and real-world problem-solving, driven by a commitment to meaningful innovation and long-term social impact.

Food Automation (Commercial)
Food being a foundational driver for proactive healthcare, we aim to automate food preparation within the fresh food production sector. Our focus is on "Outcome based food intake" - preparing fresh food daily using nutrition preserving, sustainable food preparation techniques and serving communities. Cotan Labs' flagship product, Bot Kitchen, uses applied physical intelligence, industrial-grade robotics, and AI-driven kitchen orchestration to fully automate bulk food preparation at scale.
VTOL Flight Intelligence (Current Research)
With Advanced Air Mobility markets projected to reach $9 trillion by 2050, future VTOL aircraft require far more than propulsion; they need intelligence. Through strategic partnerships, Cotan Labs will research the development of perception, inference, and autonomy layers that enable VTOL systems to understand their environment, anticipate risks, and make mission-critical decisions. These capabilities have potential to support applications across cargo transport, firefighting, public safety, air medical services, and defense.
